About the team

 

The Capex and Property opex team plays a pivotal role within the Financial Control department of Virgin Media O2.

The team of 5 are responsible for the monthly accounting of capex (over £700m per annum), IFRS16 and property opex. In addition, we provide vital insight to key stakeholders that help the understanding of and influence the company’s cost base.

About the role

This role is to ensure the accurate accounting of capital expenditure and fixed assets and will provide a great opportunity for someone to join a large business and get a great insight into the strategic capital investment with a role that reaches across multiple areas of the business.
The role requires a close relationship with the Network Commercial Finance team (Operational Finance), providing support to them during, and outside of month end, ensuring that information is obtained in order to achieve business objectives. 

Key contact providing support to Infosys (fixed asset outsourced service provider), and to ensure that their work is reviewed thoroughly, and any issues are fed back timely.

With real responsibility for the integrity of our accounts as well as associated process and controls, this role offers a fantastic chance to have a real impact on the Virgin Media O2 business.

Key Responsibilities

Review and challenge the integrity of capital expenditure data and reporting to ensure the integrity of our accounts.
Maintenance of the fixed asset register on a monthly basis.

Collaboration with the Network Commercial Finance team to provide support to them during month end.
Ensure depreciation/ amortisation is properly calculated and that any associated provisions held, are fully understood and supported.
Prepare reporting for month end depreciation review meetings with the Head of Accounting. 

Key contact for Infosys (outsourced service provider), and provide support when required.

Subject matter expert for projects in Oracle; e.g clearing stuck PA project transactions and resolving PO approval issues. Also key liaison officer for the Oracle on Demand team.

Be responsible for maintaining compliance to Sarbanes-Oxley processes and controls for capital expenditure and depreciation, including asset verification and fixed asset register to general ledger reconciliation.

Key contact for internal and external audit queries. Provide support to reporting team for year-end disclosures
Ensure Budgets and forecasts are pulled together (where appropriate) to agreed timescales in respect of depreciation/ amortisation.
Heavily involved in adhoc projects which impact on capital expenditure.

Key Skills/Experience/Behaviours

•    Qualified Accountant.
•    Strong technical accounting experience with working knowledge of IAS 16 and IAS 38. 
•    Fixed Asset / Capital Accounting experience
•    Managing relationship with outsourced service providers and relationships with external accounting teams to ensure high levels of performance
•    Systems knowledge – Oracle GL, Projects and good knowledge of databases
•    Advanced excel skills
•    Ability to work to tight deadlines and meet challenging deadlines.

Internal – Operational Finance Team, Infosys and Head of Accounting.
External – Auditors
